An opportunity has become available within the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service for the position of Driver / Messenger, based in Pretoria. In addition to driving responsibilities, the position includes administrative support functions such as assisting with registry duties, document handling, and maintaining accurate records. Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 10 or ABET Level 4 qualification
  • Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience as a driver/messenger
  • Valid South African Code 10 (C1) driver’s licence
  • Valid Professional Driver’s Permit (PDP)
  • Knowledge of National Traffic Regulations
  • Familiarity with local routes and traffic laws
  • Ability to read maps and use GPS navigation systems
  • Experience handling confidential or classified documents

Responsibilities

The Driver / Messenger will be responsible for a range of operational and administrative duties, including:

  • Driving light and medium motor vehicles to transport employees for official purposes
  • Delivering and collecting official documents, mail, parcels, and other items
  • Ensuring all items are delivered to the correct destinations efficiently
  • Shuttling employees between locations as required
  • Conducting daily vehicle checks (oil, water, tyres, etc.) before use
  • Reporting mechanical issues and ensuring timely vehicle servicing
  • Maintaining vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness
  • Obtaining authorisation for vehicle use and completing all required documentation
  • Keeping accurate records, including logbooks and receipts
  • Assisting with the management and verification of transport records
  • Supporting registry office duties, including filing, copying, and emailing documents
  • Assisting with transport-related documentation and delivery notes
  • Adhering to all safety protocols, traffic regulations, and departmental procedures
